Lets Talk.png

As we continue unpacking issues of racial injustice in our region, the North Shore Gospel Partnership is pleased to welcome the Mooney-McCoy family to our "Let's Talk" series. The Mooney-McCoys will share some of their experiences of injustice and hope and seek to answer the honest questions we have. During the live discussion there will be opportunity for viewers to submit questions for the family. Join us on Wednesday, July 29, at 8pm, at  facebook.com/nsgospelpartnership .

ABOUT THE FAMILY
The Mooney-McCoy family has been part of Boston's urban community for more than four decades.
Bil was born in Boston and has spent most of his life in the Codman Square neighborhood of Dorchester. The product of a bi-racial marriage, he, his parents and his sister were the first non-whites to move onto their street. Paulea hails from Yonkers, New York and grew up in a less segregated community. She came to Boston to do her undergraduate studies at Brandeis where she and Bil met. Both members of the gospel choir at Brandeis, they have made music a central part of their identity as a couple and later as a family. Together with their children Caleb, Ethan and Nyasha, Bil and Paulea have been involved in church-based ministries, spent more than a dozen summers serving at Young Life camps, and had the opportunity to travel to France and South Africa on short-term mission trips.

Bil is the Worship Director for the chapel at Gordon College in Wenham and is also a private music teacher. He recently wrote the article "Calling in White" which was published in the Boston Globe: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/06/04/opinion/calling-white/.

Paulea formerly was the Multicultural Affairs Director at Gordon and currently works with the Boston Project Ministries (https://www.tbpm.org), a Dorchester-based organization that engages neighbors and volunteers to build and nurture strong communities. She also offers individual life coaching and mentorship and is a certified StrengthsFinder coach and has maintained strong relationships with students, alumni, faculty, and staff at Gordon College.

Caleb is a prominent Boston-based Christian hip-hop artist whose music speaks to a variety of current issues including race (https://WelcometotheOak.com). He works at Emmanuel Gospel Center (https://www.egc.org/) where he serves as Development Manager. Watch his music video "Blindspot": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNn4i6x2A0E

Ethan is a Facilities Supervisor at JLL, a real estate services company. His office is based at Harvard Medical School. He lives in Quincy with his brand new wife, Rachael.

Nyasha relocated to Baltimore where she is an elementary school teacher in the city’s public school system.

Individually, in their different roles and spheres of influence, each member of the family advocates for racial equity and understanding. They are excited to have the opportunity to collectively address the difficult issues that have always been part of the painful part of the American landscape but have come to prominence in recent weeks.

Fun facts: Bil was a charter member of his college’s Ultimate Frisbee team, Paulea is an avid science fiction fan (especially Star Trek), Caleb makes himself homemade nachos at least once a week, Ethan loves to barbecue, and Nyasha loves to spend hours watching nature documentaries.
